How do we solve the athlete and non-athlete student divide on campus? The College’s newest club is going to tackle it, with ‘meat-ups.’ Colby Meat Club (CMC) is bringing the protein to Mayflower Hill to unify the student body in an atmosphere of meat, music, and relaxation.
Who is the man behind the madness? Walker Adams `29 has spearheaded the development of CMC and modeled it off his previous meat club at Deerfield Academy. Each year, Adams has noticed how clubs get approved and eventually die off, but he believes that the College’s Meat Club has what it takes to break the cycle. Adams explains that “the small meetings are gonna be a little more chill. We were going to have someone like Thomas Manning attend. He’s a great guy and knows how to grill.”
Colby Meat Club is not your typical club — it combines a great community with a top-of-the-line culinary education. Colby College Strength and Conditioning Coach Thomas Manning is at the forefront of the club’s culinary education. Through this education, the club hopes to sustain itself long past Adams’s tenure by starting small and working their way up to big meat-ups.
Adams elaborates, “The big meetings are going to be three grills running on Miller Lawn. There will be loud music and people just playing games, sunbathing, tanning, whatever they want to do.”
Unlike most clubs, the Meat Club is not exclusive to members. Everyone is welcome, and there will be enough meat for all. “It is more of a social gathering than a constricted group meeting,” Adams reiterates.
Colby Meat Club is in good hands, with leaders full of passion for all things meat. Adams believes that the hot dog is the most overlooked cut of meat in 2026. Walker loves hotdogs: “Oh God, where do I begin?” he began. “The hot dog is the greatest source of meat you can possibly have. It is God-given and God-created. I don’t know who would have thought, if not granted by the grace of God, to put in an amalgamation of just the difference of a pig in just one little tube and then feed it to people.”
Adams thinks the best part of a hot dog is the fact that you can put anything on it: “I love a little bit of hot sauce sometimes,” he explains. Colby students will have to see for themselves why Adams rages about hot dogs, and they will get the chance at the next Colby Meat Club big ‘meating.’
Colby Meat Club is bringing the 80’s back. CMC plans to introduce a letterman varsity jacket for the members who really want to show their club spirit. Adams advertises, “We are planning to make letterman jackets with a hot dog on them.” Those looking to step-up their winter ’26 wardrobe should check out the Colby Meat Club and its effort to bring meat, community, and high fashion to Mayflower Hill.
